Jimmy Hsia

 

Vice Provost, International Programs and Strategy, Carnegie Mellon University

 

Dr. Hsia is the Vice Provost for International Programs and Strategy of Carnegie Mellon University, and his role is to support and help coordinate programs at the university level with the goal to enhance and ensure the high quality of education, research and student experiences for all international programs on all campuses. After earning his undergraduate and master's degrees in engineering in China, Dr. Hsia earned his Ph.D. in MIT. He then spent most of his career in the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign, and was visiting professor at Max Planck Institute in Germany, Nagoya University in Japan, Tsing Hua University and Zhejiang University. Hsia's work at the University of Illinois included helping establish a number of interdisciplinary research and educational centers, including an Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and an NSF Science and Technology Center (STC) in collaboration with MIT and Georgia Tech focused on creating cellular machines. For two years, Dr. Hsia served at the NSF as director of the Nano and Bio-mechanics program. He is also the director of the Global Enterprise for MicroMechanics and Molecular Medicine, or GEM4, which was founded by CMU President Subra Suresh to carry out interdisciplinary research and education at the interface of engineering, biological sciences and medicine. Dr. Hsia is also the co-editor-in-chief of a new academic journal, Extreme Mechanics Letters, published by Elsevier.

 

Jerome Pesenti

 

Vice President, Core Technology, IBM Watson

 

Jerome is Vice President, Core Technology, at IBM Watson. He leads a team of developers and researchers in charge of Watson Developer Cloud - a set of cognitive services that anybody, students, start ups or fortune 500 companies, can integrate through the cloud. Jerome joined IBM after its acquisition of Vivisimo, the innovative search solutions company he co-founded fourteen years ago. Before Vivisimo, Jerome was a visiting scientist at Carnegie Mellon University’s computer science department, carrying out research on document clustering, data mining and artificial intelligence. Jerome is a Carnegie Science Entrepreneur and Pittsburgh 40 under 40 awardee. He is an alumnus of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris with a Ph.D. in pure maths and degrees in philosophy and cognitive sciences.

 

Bo Zhu

Founder, Innovalley

 

Bo Zhu is the founder and chairman of the Innovalley Accelerator/Incubator in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, China. He is also a founder of the Dreamchaser investment management fund in Shenzhen and is acknowledged as one of the top ten most successful angel investors in China. With twenty years of experience working with Internet, IT, and telecommunication, Mr. Zhu has directed Innovalley in investing in more than 60 companies in the United States and in China, helping a majority of these companies exceed twenty times their original valuation.

Prior to establishing Innovalley, Mr. Zhu served as CMO of business and software product line unit at Huawei, and later as the President of Internet business. He has held both engineering and executive positions at Qualcomm and American Express. Mr. Zhu comes from both an investing and entrepreneurship background. He founded NeTrue Communications, a global VoIP service provider that reached IPO on the Canada Stock Exchange. He was also the founder of Cgogo in 2004, which received institutional financing. His investment portfolio includes startups such as CoverMe, DownTown, xTV, Weendy, and BoostInsider, super syllabus, gift talk, jianzhe mao, dajiatou etc.

Mr. Zhu graduated from Arizona State University with a Master of Computer Science, and holds a Bachelor from Zhejiang University in China. He is currently working on a Doctor of Business Administration from EDC Rennes School of Business in France.

 

Feng Li

Feng Li is actively involved in investment in education, consumer services, TMT and other high- tech related fields. In the joint of internet and finance, Mr. Li led the investments into Credit Ease, Ripple, Coinbase, Baifendian and Wacai. Mr. Li once launched two start-ups, after that, he joined New Oriental Education & Technology Group, where he worked for eight years and held several core management roles, such as the core education system, sub-brand’s establishment and promotion, distant education and subsidiary products. After leaving New Oriental in early 2007, he created Miaozhen System, a renown big-data driven advertising company.

Mr. Li once served at China Renaissance, where he was involved in leading many financing cases. Mr. Li received his M.S. in Chemistry from University of Rochester and BS in Chemistry from Peking University.
